Lochana is a collective initiative spearheaded by C-EARTH with the participation of various heritage enthusiasts who are well renowned in their respective fields. This social venture seeks to produce a documentary series of our fading heritage, which at present remains unknown to the public realm beyond the local vicinity.

The purpose of documentation is to generate an authentic database, prevent spread of misinformation and create public awareness about India’s rich heritage with a focus on Kerala at present, which includes architectural edifices, art forms, cultural practices, values etc. that have evolved over time while engaging with the changing geographic, climatic, social and political setting.
 

Need for the initiative

There is renewed public interest on traditional knowledge systems as society wakes up the realities of unsustainable management of traditional knowledge which are unique to each area.

No knowledge systems remain static by nature and since the change in context is inevitable, the knowledge systems responding to it must adapt accordingly so as to stand the test of time.

Adaptations also occur with the arrival of new people and their knowledge systems which leads to a gradual syncretism to create a new, distinct entity. Across the centuries of transfer and evolution, these systems have attained a refinement that confers a timelessness that makes it relevant even today. And yet, the core principles remain unchanged, establishing its continuance throughout eras.
